Purse Snatching

One young man ran up behind me, pinned my arms and held my waist as soon as I had my house key from my purse. Another young man, who had reached me at the same time, just reached up and pulled the strap, which instantly tore away, and they took off running, while I called for help with no one responding.

That's it. My credit cards, identifying information, makeup, etc. was gone in seconds. The pepper spray did me no good. Nor did having my keys in my hand. I can't go to work without ID, and being contract, that means I don't get paid for the time it's going to take me to get new identification. I'm screwed.

And I'm going to need identification for an in-person job interview because the company is flying me to Salt Lake City for the face-to-face interview.

Welcome to Womanhood, and another good reason to leave Louisville.

But I finally met someone here I really like to be with, and likes to be with quirky me.

*Sigh,

  1. All I can say, is to try and be more alert to your surroundings. Though it sucks you lost your purse and all - thankfully nothing worse happened! :)

  2. Thanks.

These young men knew exactly what they were doing. The first thing they did was immobilize me from using my pepper spray, and I just now realized that they stripped it from me.

They could have raped me if they so desired.

Other than living in constant fear of going out of my house or getting out of my car there was nothing else I could do.

Of course, the hyper-vigilance is settling in and I expect it to get worse.

    Hugs,
    Sophie

  5. As you say, it could be worse, but it is no consolation for the fear you now live with. So glad you are okay.

You will find someone who likes your quirky self wherever you go Sophie.

    Hugs.

  6. Always a good idea to alert people in your support system to this. The incident itself sounds horrible, but it's the aftershocks that can hit you that are sometimes equally debilitating when a knowing ear and warm shoulder can be most important
    Take care

  7. I recovered the purse with the help of some very good citizens and Leslie Ann.

    Thank you.

The only things that appear to be missing at this point are my pepper spray, one dollar, a green coin purse and my checkbook.
